Nicolás Saavedra grew up in the chaos and beauty of Bogotá, Colombia, where a classical education and two older brothers who loved electronic music filled their home with sound. At twenty, he started working in local clubs, while making his own records by day and DJing at night. For over ten years, he has kept up this pace as Kabinett, a DJ, Producer, and Curator who has been instrumental in shaping his enigmatic city’s local scene. As a result, his current touring itinerary matches this busy at-home schedule, with his show at Control Club coming up fast on August 21, 2026.
Growing the Catalogue
For seven years, the Kabinett project stayed local. Saavedra released small batches of records on labels like Glitterbox, Duro, and Midnight Riot. But things changed when Norwegian space-disco stalwart Prins Thomas discovered his music. In 2022, he would put out an EP on his label, Internasjonal, praising Saavedra’s tracks for being so well finished that they needed almost no editing. Two years later, Saavedra released his debut album on the label, The World That I Created Now Is Mine. The album featured ten tracks of dark analog synths and hypnotic percussion, with unexpected touches of cosmic disco.
After that milestone, Saavedra released a series of records that steadily brought him even more international attention. In spring 2024, “Es De Soul” was released as a dreamy single on Boyanza as a warm-up. The next year, Dance Therapy made a bigger splash on Roam Recordings, with its main single, “Power/Freedom”, remixed by Hardway Bros and Jason Peters. By September 2025, he had another release, Media Kids on Playground. In January, he put out a mini-album, Dance On The Volcano, on the new label Natural Selections, where he brought a more post-punk edge.
Somewhere on the Dial
Since 2023, Kiosk Radio in Brussels has played his sets regularly in the Kaputt.wav slot, most recently in spring 2025. Between broadcasts, he has shared two of his own mixes, Something Spæcial and Selección Dura. He has also made an appearance on Radio Vilnius and two filmed sessions, one for Hesawyou and another for El Cajón de los Milagros.
The Rooms Behind the Records
Saavedra started as a curator before making records. In December 2014, he won a DJ contest for a curator role at Hotel W, which led the hotel to book acts like Purple Disco Machine. That same year, he and a small group, including Felipe Gordon and Joint4nine, founded the vinyl-house label Nómada Records.
Saavedra’s patience continued at Kaputt.wav, the label linked to Kaputt, where he manages the roster and supports producers like Theus Mago, Curses, and Iñigo Vontier. El Coq came next, the Zona Rosa spot behind the red door known for its indie-electronic and electro-rock nights.

Dance Therapy by Kabinett
One of his top-selling tracks, thanks to the stripped-down Hardway Bros rework. The original is something of a detour for Kabinett. With distortion and live bass, it gives the track a rougher feel than his usual style, while maintaining an undeniable sense of intergalactic funk.

Nómada White
In January 2018, Nómada released its first record, the white label compilation, Nómada White Pt. 1. It featured tracks from a slew of Latin America’s finest producers, including Felipe Gordon, Lucien Magual, 4004, and Discoholycs. Off the six-tracker, highlights included the Maguals ’ trip-hop-informed “Lluvia” and Saavedra’s own 'Can’t Do My Thing' (as Nico Saav).

Kaputt Club
Each month, more than thirty-three thousand people visited Kaputt Club before Bogotá’s metro authorities closed its original location in 2023. The label Kaputt.wav, run by Saavedra, started from that club. Both locally resistant and internationally recognized, Kaputt.wav has provided a destination for the likes of Fabrizio Mamarella, Dan Solo, and Franz Scala.
